I’ve been using Valvoline for years. I’ve grown to trust my local shop with my maintenance, recommendations, and services.

So much so that I’ve directed my Mother, XXXXXXX, my Mother in law XXXXXXXX, and my children XXXX, XXXXXX, XXXXXXX all to Valvoline. My staff at work all know that I recommend Valvoline over all other stations. If you look up my name in the computer the list of cars I bring is extensive and goes back for years. Until my last visit.

Your new crew at the Tualatin location (Luke, Jason, Ruben) are among the worst I’ve encountered. I have banned my family from returning to Valvoline again and I am seeking another Service station I can trust. On this visit I brought my mothers’ Chevy Lumina into do an early oil change and check the transmission fluid. Luke proceeded to tell me that the car NEEDED to have the synthetic oil for $99.

I let him know that my mother lives in Lincoln City. She drives 10 miles a day on flat land in an area that has neither hot or cold temperature extremes. The car is 17 years old with 270,000 miles on it. Does he really think she needs synthetic performance oil?

His response in a condescending tone of “maybe she only wants to put the Best in her car,” started us off on a bad step. After conceding that he would put in whatever I wanted, he checked the transmission fluid. Right in front of me (I was out of the car now with him at the engine) he pulled out the transmission dipstick and wiped it across a grease spot on his shop towel and told me it was really bad and should be flushed. I haven’t seen that move since the mid 80’s.

I told him to wipe the dipstick on a clean towel and to try it again without dragging it thru the grease. Amazingly, when he did so the fluid was magically fine and we moved on. The serpentine belt was his next upsell. According to him it was cracking, old and needed to be changed.

I asked him to show me the wear on it. Even with his flashlight he couldn’t show me cracking or wear. He was sure it had micro fractures in it that I wasn’t seeing. I asked him if they came new out of the box with them as the belt was less than 3,000 miles old.

Jason told me I had a “bad oil leak” and I asked how low the oil was when they started the change. It wasn’t low according to the crew, which makes me think they didn’t check it for how could it be full AND have a bad leak. I called down to Ruben inside the bay and asked him where it was leaking, he replied that he couldn’t find it. Let me repeat, he couldn’t FIND the BAD LEAK that didn’t drain any oil in the last 3,000 miles.

I’m still confused by this. I drive by this location a few times a week and have yet to see any of the old crew I’d grown to trust. Not only will I not be back, I will not use ANY Valvoline locations any longer as it’s obvious that in Lincoln City they are pulling this same fraudulent BS on my mother. Feel free to operate your franchises under any directives you feel will make you money.

But understand that when you were giving honest feedback and service you earned my personal money on 6 cars that I pay for servicing on, and many more referrals.

I’ve turned away at least 16 cars in bad word of mouth for you now, and have no problem telling the rest of my friends how I feel. Thanks for the years of trust we used to have, XXXXX
